Saturday reviewer
In this week’s Saturday Review on BBC Radio 4, chaired by Tom Sutcliffe, Graham joined sociologist Tiffany Jenkins and critic Michael Arditti as guest reviewers. They discussed Xavier Dolan’s new movie Mommy, the Park Theatre’s production of Frozen, Channel 4’s docudrama Coalition, Sara Taylor’s novel The Shore and the Richard Diebenkorn exhibition at the Royal Academy.
Graham especially admired Mommy and the Diebenkorn show. ‘Mommy is a charming, life-affirming, wonderfully ill-mannered movie’, he said, ‘a triumph for all the leading actors and the director. I hope he continues to flourish now that Hollywood has taken an interest in him and he’s being given big money to work with.’ Graham had never previously seen a Diebenkorn picture hung in Britain and was deeply impressed – he is truly versatile, as good an abstract artist as he is in figurative work. ‘This is a terrific exhibition if disappointingly small – I can’t wait for a major retrospective show.’
