The authorised biography of Stephen Hawking

Graham’s next book will be the authorised biography of Stephen Hawking, publisher John Murray announced today. On behalf of the Hawking Estate, Hawking’s children Lucy, Robert and Tim said: ‘We are really delighted to be collaborating with Graham Farmelo on the definitive account of our extraordinary father’s life and work. Graham will have exclusive access to all our personal records, resources and contacts.’

Graham began his work on this project within weeks of the publication of his latest book, The Universe Speaks in Numbers. He is hugely excited to be writing a biography of one of Dirac’s successors as the Lucasian Chair at Cambridge University. ‘It is a privilege and a joy to be writing the life of Stephen Hawking, whom Dirac much admired’, Graham says. ‘Hawking was not only a brilliant scientist but also a truly remarkable human being.’ The book is scheduled to be published in 2024. Meanwhile, Graham says, ‘this is going to be quite an adventure’.
