Leading theoretical physicist Nima Arkani-Hamed recently gave Graham an inspiring interview about the mysterious harmony between pure mathematics and fundamental physics.

Nima, based at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton is on dazzling form. He recalls how his passion for physics grew rapidly towards the end of his time in college, and how he became obsessed with helping to advance our understanding of physics using clues from both experiments and mathematics.

This is the first of twenty interviews given by world-class experts to Graham on some of the themes he explores in The Universe Speaks in Numbers. A new interview will be posted weekly.

Among the interviewees are the late Michael Atiyah, Ruth Britto, Simon Donaldson, Freeman Dyson, Val Gibson, Michael Green, Juan Maldacena, Michaela Massimi, Martin Rees, Simon Schaffer and Lenny Susskind.
